Manufacturers gathered at Bystronic’s North American headquarters for demonstrations of the ByStar Fiber laser.

Bystronic’s newest fiber laser machine, the ByStar Fiber, was introduced to the North American market during an event held at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Elgin, Ill. Manufacturers from across the continent viewed demonstrations during the June 15-16 event.

The ByStar was introduced as the first fiber laser that was designed specifically as a fiber laser rather than adapting the platform of a CO2 laser.

Frank Arteaga, head of product marketing, said that the new design includes a bridge constructed of triangular components that reduces its weight by 25 percent and increases stability during rapid acceleration and deceleration by 60 percent. According to the company, X and Y axes have 40% higher acceleration while cutting than other Bystronic Fiber laser offerings, and the acceleration of the Z axis increased by 240 percent.

Other ByStar features listed by the company include:

  • A large side opening to provide access to the cutting area.
  • Easy-to-use ByVision Cutting CNC 22-in. touch-screen control.
  • Minimal energy consumption for low operating costs.
  • Ability to cut up to 1-in. mild steel and up to 1.180-in. stainless and aluminum.

Selected software packages, press brakes, and automation were also demonstrated.

The ByStar Fiber shuttle table has a 20 per cent faster changeover time to keep up with increased cutting speeds according to the company.
